Will You Be My Liver
Music in this clip by Michael Galasso:
Will You Be
My Liver
choreographed and performed by Catherine Galasso
For the dance-theater piece, Will You Be My Liver,
Catherine Galasso grapples with an unlikely subject: the liver transplant.
Drug induced paranoia and other psychological side effects become fodder for
movement, as well as metaphors for the way modern science can alter identity,
particularly when it concerns the organ that was once believed to be the seat
of love and violent emotion. Dealing with questions of spectatorship, identity,
revelation, and the mysteries of modern medical science, Will
You Be My Liver combines poignancy with playfulness to transform
the experience from personal to universal. This solo is a meditation on the
bizarre and emotionally wrenching reality that accompanies this complex operation.
